Over the last few years, I've been in meetings where at many times I'm the only woman. It was ok at the start but over time, it got me thinking. My career journey as a woman in the workplace, an Indian woman in the workplace and a mother in the workplace is a learning experience everyday. I did some reflection, some research, and of course talked to my friends and female colleagues and realized that almost every working woman has her own story to tell. There are so many experiences that are common and yet, somehow, it's easy to feel that you are going it alone.
Many times, there is also a sense of competition that is generated (deliberately or not) in the organization between female employee that creates a mindset of limitation and quotas, of thinking that only one of us can get to a certain spot because there is no way all the seats are for us. It’s these experiences that made me think of creating a support network – one that ensures that you are not alone and that at you can seek inspiration from women who’re writing their own stories and are going from strength to strength in their careers.
I wanted to build a platform that enables us to expand our list of role models and get perspectives on how they navigate their journey every day. There doesn't need to be any limits on how many of us can be there if we learn from each other and lift each other up!
And that's why I got way out of my comfort zone to start unlimited seating.
I’ve been lucky to get some amazing women to sign on as role models and share their stories. These role models are successful in their careers and they're going to go and accomplish even greater things going forward. And yet they signed on readily when I explained what unlimited seating is all about, because like me, they believe there shouldn't be any leads when it comes to women in the workplace.
I hope, that through these candid conversations, we are giving access to insights and career tips from powerful female leaders, as well as a feeling of community for women in the workplace, everywhere who are passionate about growing their careers. And in the truly inclusive spirit as the name suggests, the intent is to create awareness with our senior leaders and male colleagues on how they can be active allies.
